WHAT IS A WALK MS TEAM?
A team is four or more individuals who form a team and share in the common goal of ending the devastating effects of multiple sclerosis.
WHY FORM A TEAM?
Because it's fun: It’s more fun to participate with friends.
Because it promotes physical fitness: Training for and participating in Walk MS is a great way to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Because You’ll Feel Good: Each event is a fun-filled adventure that raises money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Because Everyone Loves Recognition: Participation as a team encourages community involvement and camaraderie. Working toward a common goal brings everyone together.
Because Everyone Loves To Win: Teams and the individuals on teams can qualify for fundraising Clubs, Awards and Prizes with a whole variety of special recognition opportunities.
WHO SHOULD BE ON MY TEAM?
Invite co-workers, friends, family, club members, business associates, and people from your school, club or place of worship to join you for some great fun and for a great cause. No matter what type of team you form, everyone can benefit from the experience. Team participation brings you closer together. It allows the team a chance to enjoy each other’s company while at the same time pursuing a common goal.
WHEN SHOULD I START?
Right now! There’s no time like the present and the earlier you start your team recruitment and team pledges, the bigger your reward when the event is completed.
HOW TO FORM A WINNING TEAM
- Select a team captain and a team name. Teams can represent corporations, clubs and organizations, religious groups and schools, or can consist of friends and family members.
- Approach your marketing, matching gifts or contributions department about team support. Even if your team is not a business team, you will often find that your employer will support you individually.
- Share the work. Form a Team Committee or recruit a co-captain.
- Set goals for the number of team members and the total dollars to be raised by your team.
- Recruit Team Members. To be an official team, you must have a minimum of 4 people on your team (including you!); however, our largest team consists of more than 50 people, so don’t feel that you need to stop at four. There is no limit as to who or where you can recruit.
- Get all team members to complete and return the MS Registration form or sign up online. Make sure all team members use the same team name and not variations of the name.
- Announce that you are forming a team at the next staff, club or faculty meeting or e-mail your friends and family to get them to join your team or give you a pledge.
- Distribute registration forms with your team’s name filled in to friends and colleagues.
- Keep an updated roster posted to list all confirmed team members. E-mail is great for this!
- Encourage your team members to continue with their fundraising efforts. Maintain regular contact and encourage them often. Remember, they are raising funds for the battle against multiple sclerosis, and they are to be commended for their teamwork and their dedication.
We are here to assist you in your efforts to end the devastating effects of multiple sclerosis and welcome the opportunity to meet with you, your employer, and colleagues to discuss the Walk MS Team concept.
